Welcome
BSME is proud to coordinate the largest student programme of sporting, academic and creative arts events in the Middle East. The Games are especially important to BSME schools, but the 2019 U13 Games is one for the history books: it is set to be the largest BSME Games to date!
The Games provide yet another extraordinary opportunity for BSME students to compete at the highest level in an international context. The best of the best from 21 British international school teams, representing 6 countries, are participating, namely Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Competitive sport is an important tool to inspire learning which transcends the scoreboard or the rankings. The U13 Games will also inspire new and lasting friendships, new approaches to conflict resolution, the value of teamwork, grit and resilience, and of course pure enjoyment of movement. In a digital world where everything is instantaneous, the hours of practice and repetition displayed by each competitor is a true measure of greatness: greatness of character, greatness of determination.
Day 1 promises to yield high-quality athletics performances at Dubai Sports City, one of the Emirates’ most elite sporting venues.
On Day 2, the girls' Football teams will compete in the Football tournament at Dubai Sports City while the boys’ teams show off their Volleyball skills at Dubai British School and Dubai British School Jumeirah Park. Our sincere thanks to Brendan Fulton and Heather Mann, the Principals of these two Taaleem schools, for supporting the U13 Games by opening their facilities up to schools!
On the third and final day, girls’ Netball and boys’ Football champions will be decided at Kings’ School Al Barsha’s outstanding sports facilities. Alan Williamson, Director of the Kings’ School Group, and Rebecca Grey, Principal of Kings’ School Al Barsha, are constant supporters of BSME sporting events - thank you.
BSME is also grateful for the support of Andrew Cook and the team at TWEDEX for their role in coordinating the U13 Games. They will, of course, be supported by several members of staff from the participating schools during the Games for 3 full days of competitive sports.
We would like to extend our appreciation to our sponsors; without their support this event would not be possible.
We wish every student, member of staff and parent an enjoyable and rewarding U13 Games.
